About Jeanne

My connection to art began early, inspired by my mother’s artwork and a childhood filled with frequent museum trips and an art-filled playroom with hand-painted nursery rhyme characters on every wall. Busy with a fulfilling career in education and motherhood, I embraced clay as my primary medium later in life, creating my happy place - a basement studio where I immerse myself in porcelain and stoneware.

My work is multi-faceted and spans black-and-white Nerikomi porcelain, gilded stoneware embossed with intricate lace patterns, and delicate sculptures formed by dipping natural and recycled materials into porcelain slip. These pieces explore transformation, memory, and the beauty found in ordinary objects made precious. My process balances playfulness with patience, and often draws on family heritage and tactile traditions like my grandmother’s embroidered handkerchief, which inspires my Gilded series. And there’s the gold-22k gold luster, which adds a little signature bling to my pieces.

I strive to blend artmaking with experimentation and material exploration. My work is a tribute to memory, resilience, and metamorphosis. Notable projects include collaborative installations and an evolving series of gilded “warrior woman” breastplates celebrating badass women past and present.

Outside the studio, I enjoy gardening, hiking, the beach, and my precious grandsons. I’m inspired by the relationship between nature, history, and creativity. I view art as a means to foster connection and wonder, and aim to continue exploring how clay can bring people closer to themselves and each other, seeking beauty and meaning in the everyday.
